 Our Founder

Our founder, Tony Fiddis, is the founder and lead analyst of China Update and Market Update, two of the world's most respected independent video platforms on YouTube dedicated to the geopolitical and economic analysis of China. 'China Update' is also in podcast form.

A New Zealander, Tony's analytical framework is grounded in a rare combination of Western legal precision and direct Chinese institutional expertise. He holds a master's degree in international relations from Peking University (PKU) in Beijing and a law degree from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, where he was also admitted to the bar.

A fluent Mandarin speaker, Tony spent over a decade living and working on the ground in China. Leveraging his legal and policy background, Tony approaches his audience with the rigorous objectivity of a trusted counsel, treating subscribers like clients entitled to high-quality, unbiased, and evidence-driven insights.

Tony Fiddis is also the founder and head analyst of China Update Consulting, established to help clients better understand China.
